Have an EPIC Summer: Independent Pharmacy Community Involvement

With summer right around the corner, EPIC Rx wants to share ways your independent pharmacy can increase exposure in your community.

  • Opportunities for Local Students

Students are on summer break and many are looking for summer jobs! Offering part-time positions to students in your area is a great way to build relationships and inspire students to pursue careers in pharmacy. Summer is a great time to provide internships with current pharmacy students as well.

EPIC Rx offers a Student Grant Program in which our buying group members have the honor of recommending a student planning to work in independent pharmacy after graduation. What a fantastic opportunity to support one of your interns or a student in your community!

  • Sponsor Community Summer Activities

Summer is the perfect time to expand your sponsorships. County fairs, farmers markets, softball tournaments, and others are great examples of different community events that your independent pharmacy could be a part of.

Collaborate with local camps, senior centers, and sports teams to offer health-related services and/or speak to their groups about how your independent pharmacy can support their needs.

  • Host Events Inside Your Independent Pharmacy

Offering free blood pressure screenings, vaccinations, and health workshops are great ways to bring the community into your independent pharmacy.

Special deals on summer items can entice more customers and increase your exposure. Sunscreen, allergy medications, and travel health kits are just a few items that everyone will need this summer!

Our buying group members have access to preferred vendors and exclusive discounts to stock up on all the summer essentials.

  • Participate In or Host Community Clean-Ups or Charity Drives

Hosting or participating in community events will promote a positive image for your independent pharmacy. Collect old prescriptions as a way for members of your community to properly dispose of unused medications or collect used bottles to donate or recycle. With kids being home during the summer months, charity drives for the food bank, gathering supplies to donate to the local senior center, or cleaning up areas that are more frequently used during the summer, such as lakes, beaches, playgrounds, and parks, are all great ideas for helping your community.

  • Speak Up About Independent Pharmacy Legislation

Get involved in community discussions about independent pharmacy and advocate for legislative action.

At EPIC Rx, we have a Government Affairs team who works tirelessly to fight for legislation that supports independent pharmacies such as PBM reform, provider status, and Medicaid Managed Care reform. Many members of our Board of Directors are actively involved in national organizations like NCPA and APhA as well as state pharmacy boards to advocate for community pharmacy.
